Nominate for Life Saving Award

The Life Saving Award recognizes acts of valor performed by veterans, members, or civilians whose courage rises above personal safety and exemplifies the principles of service and sacrifice that define the VFW. These actions may occur in any setting—on or off duty—where an individual’s intervention directly contributed to saving or preserving life.

Nominee Eligibility

Open to members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the VFW Auxiliary, and civilians.

The act must involve the saving or attempted saving of a human life under dangerous or extraordinary circumstances.

Actions must demonstrate courage, quick thinking, and a disregard for personal safety.

Incidents must have occurred within the current or previous membership year.

Nomination and Documentation: 

To nominate an individual, complete the official Life Saving Award Entry Form, below, and attach documentation detailing the event. Supporting materials may include:

Verification from local authorities or medical personnel, when applicable.

Official reports, witness statements, or media coverage.

Photographs, commendations, or letters from responding agencies.
